Other Table Sports
Table sports are games and sports you can play on table-like surfaces. Since a lot of games and sports fit this kind of a general description, the list of table sports can possibly run into a few dozens. Among the more popular table sports that are considered “other table sports” are the sports that were translated from field sports to table versions. These table sports are often smaller versions of the original field counterpart and they are played by two to four people only.
Some of the other table sports that are becoming increasingly popular these days are table hockey, table football and air hockey. All of these games have counterparts in the field games arena which are played with a lot of players. With the table counterparts, these games can be played by only a few people, but still based on the same premise for the original field game they emulate.
These other table sports games basically take the usual function of game play of most sports whereby one player tries to score a goal against the opponent's defensive moves. These table sports are mostly played with the use of equipment that is part of the table's construction. Such equipments are either constructed into the table itself or as separate tools for scoring and defending one's goal.
In the case of table football, the tools used to defend a goal or base are built into the table sport itself, and the players try to defend their own goals while attempting to score a goal themselves. The players use the knobs found jutting outside of the table's sides to twirl simulated miniature football players in the table and use these to paddle a ball into position to score the winning goal. This game can be played by two people or two pairs of people defending and doing offensive moves to score.
With air hockey and table hockey, two players try to defend their own goals with a stamp-like gadget that they use to send a disc like object into the opponent's goal. The premise for the field game is the same, to score as many goals as possible to win the game within a certain period of time.
These table versions of hockey and football are some of the table sports you can see in arcades, college dorms and malls where many youngsters converge. Due to their popularity and ease of play, you can easily see numerous youngsters and adults alike playing these other table sports that are a lot of fun, and not just plain challenging.
