Snooker Equipment

The game of snooker is a spin-off of the popular game of pool or billiards. This means that the snooker equipment you need for the sport includes a table that is similar to the ones used for billiards or pool. The tables of billiards vary in size and may be used for casual snooker games; however, these cannot be used for tournament play. The usual measurements of the typical pool table can be in the seven foot, eight foot or nine foot length. The table for the official snookers games measures a very sizable 12 feet long by six feet wide. This makes the snooker table the largest pool table in the different billiard game siblings.

Other snooker equipment you may need aside from the large pool table with the normal six pockets are the balls that will be used in play. There are equally sized snooker balls in different colors and in fifteen snooker balls in red. The other colored balls come in the following colors: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black. Aside from these colored balls, there is one ball in the neutral color of white which is the cue ball. This cue ball is hit by a cue stick to propel it forward to hit these colored balls to score points.

A typical cue stick or cue, as it is sometimes simply called, measures around one and a half meters long and comes in a tapered shape with the butt of the cue having a wider diameter than the end that is used to hit the cue ball. The tip of the cue stick is padded with leather and held in place by a cuff called a ferrule.

Aside from these essential equipment used for the game of snooker, there are also accessories that are used occasionally to help with pocketing balls, keeping the ball from slipping when being hit and assist type accessories for hard to hit balls. These accessories for snooker include the blue colored chalk that is used to coat the tip of the cue stick, the triangle that is used to shape the red balls for the break, the scoreboard where the players' points are kept track of and the rests that help players reach those hard to reach shots on the rather large snooker table.

Having these snooker equipment at hand will help you and your friends enjoy a challenging game of snooker whenever you feel like it. While you can play snooker on smaller tables used for billiards and pool, the challenge of the snooker table is different from these rather small counterparts.
